In this talk, Gyelmo Drukpa will discuss the history of Tibetan Studies in China, the current state of related research departments and academic fields, as well as new research findings and directions.
About the Speaker(s):
Gyelmo Drukpa (Chi. Zhou Hua) is a leading historian of Tibet. His book, Concise History of Tibet (Tib. Bod kyi lo rgyus gleng ba’i gtam) was first published in Tibetan language in 1995. Its third edition, expanded and updated, was published in 2017. His expertise in Tibetan history, especially highlighting understudied regions such as Amdo and Kham, are key elements of his pioneering research and publications. In his Compilation of Essays (Tib. Rgyal mo ’brug pa’i che rtsom phyogs bsgrigs), he wrote extensively about the history of Minyak, Sumpa, among many other topics. Gyelmo Drukpa also served a key role as deputy director of the most recent publication of the comparative edition of the Kangyur and Tengyur. Among other high-ranking titles, he is also a serving member of the China Tibetology Research Center’s Academic Committee. His lectures at various universities both nationally and internationally are highly regarded.
