In 1978 Michel Foucault gave a series of lectures and interviews in Japan, engaging with political intellectuals and literary scholars. Now available for the first time in English, these lectures shed new light on Foucault’s work, the nature and practice of critical theory, and the role of Asia in it.
On the occasion of the publication of Michel Foucault, The Japan Lectures: A Transnational Critical Encounter, presented and introduced by John Rajchman (Routledge, 2024), Carol Gluck, Lydia Liu, Bernard Harcourt, and John Rajchman will discuss its contents and their implications for us today.
Event sponsored by the Weatherhead East Asian Institute.
