Columbia University is a member of the consortium of universities which sponsors the Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies in Yokohama, Japan. The center provides intensive training in advanced spoken and written Japanese.

The Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Study in Beijing

Columbia University is on the Inter-University Board for Chinese Language Studies, which provides intensive programs in intermediate and advanced Chinese at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

The Kyoto Consortium for Japanese Studies

The Kyoto Consortium offers Columbia students the opportunity to study in Japan in a program combining intensive instruction in the Japanese language with courses taught in English on a wide range of topics in Japanese studies. Students should have at least the equivalent of two years of Japanese by the time of their departure. The program is most appropriate for the junior year, though other arrangements will be considered. 

Hopkins-Nanjing Center Certificate Program

The Hopkins-Nanjing Center awards a graduate Certificate in Chinese and American Studies to students who spend one academic year at the Center, passing a minimum of five out of six content courses attempted in their target language. more
