Inner Asia
The Weatherhead East Asian Institute is a pioneer in the study of Inner Asia and has been a leading US institution for research on modern Tibet since the establishment of the Modern Tibetan Studies Program in 1999. The Institute’s scholars of Mongolia and Tibet make significant contributions to current research on the history, politics, religion, and culture of the region and elevate public discourse by organizing lectures, conferences, and workshops with guest speakers from across academia and the arts. In addition to the unparalleled collection of Inner Asia materials available at Columbia’s C.V. Starr East Asian Library, the Institute continues to develop strong partnerships with leading foundations and institutions in New York such as Latse and the Rubin Museum of Art. Through its Master of Arts in Regional Studies - East Asia program, the Institute provides graduate students the opportunity to take courses on a wide variety of topics concerning Inner Asia. Additional digital resources on Inner Asia including teaching materials are available through the Institute’s Curriculum Resources page.
