  • Asia Society Internships (New York and San Francisco) – Currently New York and Washington DC

    Notes: Internships available in several different areas; unpaid
     
  • Asian Pacific American Institute Internship (Washington, DC)
    Deadline: February 27, 2020 for Summer 2020
    Notes: Undergraduate internship; offers fellowship for graduate students; both summer and year-round internships
     
  • The Carter Center Internship Program
    Deadlines: Summer: March 1;  Fall June 15; Spring: Oct 15
    Notes: Required to commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week. Graduate assistantships offered
     
  • Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) Internships
    Deadline: Internship vacancies are filled as needed; check the website for a listing of current openings
    Notes: Must be at least a college junior in good standing, an advanced student or a recent graduate; must be eligible to work in the US; paid internships; must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) or equivalent
     
  • CET Academic Programs Internships (Washington, DC)
    Offers paid internships in Washington, DC office during the fall, spring and summer terms. Open internship positions will be posted on their Job Openings page. They hire three types of interns: Marketing, Academic Affairs, and Programming. Typically recruit summer and fall interns in March and spring interns in November. 
     
  • Council on Foreign Relations Internships (New York and Washington, DC)
    Deadline: Various opportunities are offered for Spring, Summer, and Fall
    Notes: Unpaid; various internships are available for both undergraduate and graduate students
     
  • Human Rights Watch Internships

    Notes: Undergraduate and Graduate internships; applications accepted in a variety of areas year-round; locations: New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Geneva, San Francisco, London
     
  • American Foreign Policy Council Internships
    Deadlines: Fall: July 1; Spring: November 15; Summer: March 15
    Notes: Unpaid; candidates should have a strong interest in foreign policy and national security; internships are available year-round
     
  • The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation Internships (Washington, DC)
    Deadline: Applications are accepted and processed on a rolling basis throughout the year depending on recruitment needs
    Notes: Internships available year-round for undergraduates and graduate students; transportation stipend offered
     
  • U.S.-Asia Institute Internships (Washington, DC)
    Deadline:  Fall: July 15; Winter/Spring: November 1; Summer: March 15
    Notes: Internships offered each semester; graduate and undergraduate opportunities available
     
  • Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars: Research Assistant Internships
    Deadline: Internship start date (Priority deadline for application) January (October 31); June (March 31); September (July 15)
    Notes: Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher; must be a current, recent, or soon-to-be student. Most interns are of at least senior undergraduate level, though strongly qualified juniors will be considered; graduate students are also eligible to apply
     
  • Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars: Program/Staff Internships
    Deadline: Varies with different internships; check individual postings for details
    Notes: No internship will exceed one year in duration; must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, a recent graduate (within the last year), and/or have been accepted to enter an advanced degree program. Paid and unpaid internships available. 
  • Amnesty International USA Country Specialists

    Notes: Unpaid; offered for a variety of interests
     
  • Liu Xiaobo Fellowships
    Deadline: Summer: Feb 15;; Spring: November 5
    Notes: Must be a U.S. citizen; should have completed some China-related coursework; should have some ability to read Chinese proficiently; graduate students
     
  • Human Rights in China Interns
    Deadline: Ongoing
    Notes: Proficiency or fluency in Mandarin highly desirable; relevant coursework highly desirable
     
  • National Committee on US-China Relations Internships
    Deadline: Fall: July 1; Spring: Nov 1; Summer: March 1
