Inspired by Women in Japanese Studies: Memoirs from a Trailblazing Generation, a book of 32 academic memoirs, this roundtable brings together scholars from different disciplines to tell their stories about how they fostered Japan-U.S. educational exchange and launched careers at Columbia University. This lively discussion will spark conversations about women’s diverse roles in cultivating Japanese Studies and the training that Columbia has provided. We will reflect on the value of personal stories to disclose hidden histories and advise future generations. The panel will engage the community in conversations about universities, fields, and gender.

Additional authors of Women in Japanese Studies will join via Zoom.

This event is hosted by the Weatherhead East Asian Institute.
