In this talk Berthe Jansen will speak about the recent past and the more recent developments in Tibetan Studies in Europe. She will argue that the combination of (typically European) philological methods with the broader field of social history holds great potential, and will give some examples of this from her own research.

About the Speaker:

Berthe Jansen is junior professor of Tibetan studies at the Institute for Indian and Central Asian Studies, Leipzig University. She is the author of The Monastery Rules: Buddhist Monastic Organization in Pre-Modern Tibet (2018), published at the University of California Press.
