WEAI's Professor Daniel M. Smith and Masataka Harada of Fukuoka University were awarded the 2022 Kenneth A. Shepsle Prize for best article in the Journal of Political Institutions and Political Economy. Their paper "Distributive Politics and Crime" was published in the Journal's 2021 issue and examines whether and how intergovernmental fiscal transfers reduce crime, using municipal panel data from Japan.
