MARSEA Student Zihan Zhang Wins Davis Fellowship

March 06, 2026

Today the Weatherhead East Asian Institute is exceptionally pleased to announce that Zihan Zhang (above), a first-year student in the Institute's Master of Arts in Regional Studies: East Asia (MARSEA) program, has won a Davis Fellowship for the 2025-26 academic year.

A native of Shanghai, Zihan received his BA in political science from Fudan University in 2025. His research interests include political sociology; the sociology of immigration; and social theory. He is currently writing his MA thesis on Chinese American immigrants' support for political conservatism in the United States.

The Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis International Fellowship Fund supports international MA and PhD students who have demonstrated superior academic achievement. Kathryn Wasserman Davis (1907–2013), a distinguished philanthropist and scholar of foreign affairs, earned her MA from Columbia's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) in 1931, an era when very few women did such things. Read more about Davis's remarkable career and the Fund that bears her name on the School of International and Public Affairs website

From all of us at Weatherhead: Congratulations, Zihan, on receiving this honor!
