WEAI Hosts Delegation from the Indian Government's Centre for Contemporary China Studies for Discussion on China’s Foreign Policy

On Monday, August 21, Lien-Hang T. Nguyen, Director of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, and Thomas J. Christensen, Director of the Columbia-Harvard China and the World Program, welcomed Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Y.K. Joshi, Director General of the Center for Contemporary China Studies (CCCS) in the Ministry of External Affairs of India, who was leading a delegation to the United States. Lt. Gen. Joshi was joined by five members of the CCCS, the Consul General, and Deputy Consul General of India in New York. On the WEAI side, Professors Xiaobo Lü (Ann Whitney Olin Professor of Political Science at Barnard College) and Junyan Jiang (Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Columbia University) were also present.

The panel engaged in a lively discussion, covering topics such as China's geopolitical challenges, domestic developments, international relations, military reforms, and advancements in science and technology. The discussants sought to identify key challenges in the international order to open up a dialogue on India’s critical role in the world economy and multilateral cooperation.
