April 07, 2023

UPDATE: THIS POSITION HAS NOW BEEN FILLED.

Program Assistant/APAC President, 2023-2024 Academic Year
Weatherhead East Asian Institute
Office of Student Affairs

The Office of Student Affairs at the Weatherhead East Asian Institute (WEAI) is seeking a part-time program assistant to support its student outreach and programming efforts and to manage the Asia Pacific Affairs Council (APAC), which is the student-led branch of the WEAI. The program assistant will serve as the President of APAC during the 2023-2024 academic year and act as a liaison between the faculty and staff at WEAI, its affiliated student groups, and the larger Columbia student body (including all undergraduate and graduate students).

Reporting directly to the WEAI Student Affairs Coordinator, the APAC President will select and oversee the APAC leadership board and work with the board to develop and implement social, academic, and career-related programming and events (including lectures, panels, and job talks with the Institute’s faculty members as well as affiliates from outside of the university) related to East, Inner, and/or Southeast Asia for the Columbia community. In collaboration with an APAC Editor-in-chief, the APAC president will also supervise the development and publication of the annual APAC Journal in the spring.

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in engaging outside of the classroom with WEAI to develop and implement exciting events and professional development opportunities. Please note that this position is only for students who are currently enrolled in a Columbia graduate program and will be enrolled during the entire 2023-2024 academic year. Other desired qualifications for this position include event-planning experience and budgeting skills. A demonstrated interest in East, Inner, and/or Southeast Asia is a must. Priority will be given to current or former APAC board members.
