Brian Hurley, Assistant Professor in the Department of Asian Studies at the University of Texas, was named one of three finalists in the Modern Japan History Association’s 2024 Book Prize competition. The honor celebrates his book Confluence and Conflict: Reading Transwar Japanese Literature and Thought (Harvard University Asia Center, 2022), a Study of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute. The MJHA awards this prize in recognition of outstanding scholarship that illuminates the historical roots of modern Japanese society and culture.
