Grant Opportunities Available from the Japan Foundation

The Japan Foundation has announced the following grant opportunities:

1. The Japan Foundation is now accepting proposals for the Japan-U.S. Global Partnerships Grants (GP).  The goals of this grant program are to support Japan-U.S. collaborative projects that will help resolve global issues of common concern, and to support the individuals who organize and participate in these projects.  There is an info session on Thursday October 6th at 2pm (ET).   Proposals are due December 1, 2022. 

2. The Japan Foundation’s Japanese Studies Fellowship Program 2023-2024 is accepting proposals.  The program provides support to outstanding scholars, researchers, and professionals in the field by offering the opportunity to conduct research in Japan.  Projects must be in the humanities, social sciences, and/or comparative research.  Proposals are due December 1, 2022. 

3. The Japan Foundation is accepting concept papers for the Institutional Project Support (IPS) Program and the Institutional Project Support (IPS) – Small Grant Program.  Both grants encourage and support the field of Japanese Studies in the United States.  Concept papers are required, and are due October 31, 2022.  Full proposals are due December 1, 2022. 

4. The Japan Foundation is accepting proposals for the Salary Assistance Grant for U.S.-Japan Community Grassroots Exchange Program. This program aims to support the creation of new Japanese-themed programming (activities) for local communities by providing funding for the position that will design and implement the programing.  Proposed programming must be Japan-related; however, the types of events may vary (e.g., in-person workshop, online lecture, etc.) as well as the topics (e.g. culture, business, professional development, Japanese Studies etc. excluding Japanese Language).  Japanese Language or/and Japanese Studies departments at U.S. universities, Japanese gardens and U. S. based nonprofit organizations with 501(c) (3) status that promote grassroots cultural exchange are welcome to apply.  There is an info session on Thursday October 12th at 2pm (ET).  Proposals are due January 11, 2023 at 5pm (ET).
