Call for Applications: The Weatherhead East Asian Remote Dissertation Research Grant
The Weatherhead East Asian Remote Dissertation Research Grant for the academic year 2020-2021 is open to graduate students conducting remote dissertation research in the field of modern East, Southeast, and Inner Asian studies. The grant is for graduate students who, because of travel restrictions as a result of the ongoing pandemic and/or current geopolitical tensions, are currently unable to conduct dissertation research in person, as they normally would. The grant is intended to help such students by providing funds up to $2,000. The funds may be used to hire research assistants to visit archives, libraries and collections abroad, facilitate research collaboration, purchase subscriptions to online research and archival databases, and for other activities, as approved by the committee.
Eligibility
● PhD students from across disciplines at Columbia University with a research focus on modern East, Southeast, and Inner Asia are welcome to apply.
Application Process
The Committee will give the highest priority to applicants who demonstrate a clear need for the funds and a practical proposal for accomplishing their research goals.
Deadline
Applications will be accepted and awarded on a rolling basis until the funds have been exhausted. As such, we encourage potential applicants to apply as soon as possible by submitting a completed Application Form and recent CV to Elizabeth Peiffer at [email protected].
