The Weatherhead East Asian Institute’s Asia for Educators (AFE) program is pleased to announce its Fall 2025 slate of Asian Topic Discussions—webinars for teachers at all levels who want to enhance their understanding of East Asian history, art, and literature and explore new ways of presenting this material in the classroom.
This fall’s program, East Asian Poetry in Comparative Perspective, will cover classic premodern poetry from China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam, in seven Tuesday evening sessions from mid-October through early December. Sessions begin in exactly one week, on Tuesday, October 14, with the University of Minnesota's Morgan Rouzer introducing The Book of Songs (Shijing), the foundational collection of Chinese poetry.
In each webinar, a leading scholar discusses the assigned topic and materials for approximately 30 minutes, covering key points, questions, and approaches to teaching the subject, before taking questions from attendees. Participants are asked to review select materials, most often short presentations from AFE’s Video from Asian Topics, prior to every session; a list of review materials appears on each webinar page linked to below.
All sessions are free and take place on Zoom from 8:00 to 9:00 pm ET.
