This event marks the launch of The Weatherhead East Asian Institute: 75 Years of Northeast, Southeast, and Inner Asia Studies, a 64-page, limited-edition hardcover book celebrating the people, milestones, and projects that have shaped our Institute over the past 75 years.
Our event will center on a panel discussion featuring former Weatherhead directors in conversation with our current director, Lien-Hang Nguyen. Joining us will be Gerald L. Curtis, Myron L. Cohen, Andrew J. Nathan, Xiaobo Lü, Madeleine H. Zelin, and Eugenia Lean, who will reflect on the Institute’s rich history and share personal anecdotes from their respective tenures. A presentation of historical photos and excerpts from our new commemorative volume will complement the discussion.
This event offers a unique opportunity to explore the enduring legacy of the Institute and our commitment to advancing Northeast, Inner, and Southeast Asian studies still further in the years to come.
After the discussion, you are also invited to join us from 6:30 to 7:30 pm for a reception in which you can mingle with our community, enjoy some refreshments, and look at further excerpts from the book.
